Summary of Results – Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory

The overall and final score following the work environment assessment is that I am employed in a mild healthy work environment. This is an essential approach towards improving on the areas of weakness to ensure that the work environment is safe. It helps in regular assessment of the work environment, thus allowing for early detection and designing of the remedies to do away with the uncivil work environment.  

Identify two things that surprised you about the results.

Also, identify one idea that you believed before conducting the Assessment that was confirmed.

I was surprised to learn that there was a low performance on the wellness of the workers. This is despite the existence of the programs to help in promoting staff. I was also surprised to learn that there is a poor score in the work distribution. This is despite the efforts made to address the shifts to ensure that there is some balancing in the workload.

The area that I found to have been confirmed by the assessment is the issue of workload distribution. Recently especially for the past two weeks, the facility has experienced a high turnover rate. Following this incidence, the facility has not made an effort to ensure redistribution of work and employment of adequate workers to help replace the department ones.

What do the results of the Assessment suggest about the health and civility of your workplace?

The results indicate that the organization is perfectly addressing the issue of employee wellness using the programs that are in place and aimed to promote the staff. The organization does not allow its members to adequately attend these programs due to the workflow in the facility. The other important information reveal by the result is that the organization is doing little enough to ensure that the issue of workload is addressed (Clark, 2015). This problem can be addressed by redistribution of the workload and ensuring that there are adequate personnel to help replace the department employees.

The selected article is by Cynthia Clark, and it is focused on the importance of communication in the healthcare organization. According to the author, the stressful healthcare workplace makes nurses and other healthcare providers fall short of communicating respectfully. The safety of the patients relies on the ability of the providers to cope with the stress in an effective manner. To help address the uncivil encounters, the healthcare organizational leaders must ensure that there is an environment whereby nurses feel free and empowered to speak up more so on issues related to the safety of the patients (Clark, 2015).

The theory is related to the result of the work environment assessment since it shows the importance of nurses communicating their issues to the management to ensure that there is the employment of the new staff to address the incivility associated with workload. It also shows that allowing workers to communicate freely without intimidation allows them to arrange their duties and schedules, hence effectively distributing the responsibilities.

The organization can use the concepts to ensure effective communication between the provider and the management and the providers among themselves. This is important in understanding the organization’s challenges that affect the effective work environment. This is important in improving the overall healthcare outcomes of the patients, such as reducing the possibility of medication errors that can occur due to the poor communication and fatigue caused by the workload.

General Notes/Comments

Addressing the issue in the facility requires a joint effort from both providers and the hospital management. Therefore, the organizations must allow free communication and raising of the issues observed by the providers. This is important in making sure that the work distribution issues and workload are addressed effectively.
