Description
The goal of this task is to present a response to a clinical scenario in which you demonstrate the assessment, planning
and priority management of a complex case and interpret evidence to inform the RN responsibilities and restore health.
2500 word case study, submitted through Blackboard.
Criteria:
Application of an advanced assessment to a complex patient and consider investigations for the case.
Use of evidence to inform the complex management and RN responsibiliteis for the care of a complex patient.
Application of pathophysiology to the case to ideintify the complex care needs
Communication in academic and clinical contexts with the appropriate use of sources to support the writing.

Do I need to document the primary survey in the patient assessment?
No, you do not need to document the primary survey in this assignment. Instead you need to present the seconday assessment of the patient. The secondary assessment of the patient is the head to toe using the body systems framework

Do I need to state the rationale for investigations of the patient in the assessment?
You do not need to state the rationale for the investigations used for the patient. For example, you don’t need to say why it is important to do the investigation.

However, you do need to state the findings of the investigations, and then make an assessment of it. For example;

“the arterial blood gas showed a partial pressure of 70mmHG, indicating hypoxaemia (Author, Year)”.

Here a statement of fact has been introduced so don’t forget to reference.

Do I use headings in a case study?
Yes, this is slightly different from an essay format and we like headings for marking, and it also helps you to write the assignment.

Can I use abbreviations?
You can use recognised abbreviations, but please introduce them first.

What do I need to reference in the patient assessment section?
A common mistake is students add a reference where it is not needed. Eg Mr Smith has a temperature (REF).

This is not required because the data regarding the temperature is taken from the case scenario. We encourage you to use these terms appropriately (for instance febrile or afebrile. This will not require a reference, as it is now assumed knowledge.

Statements using this information and adding factual statements to them, will require a reference. For example;

The patient is febrile at 40 degrees, indicating that they may have sepsis (Reference)
